Role:

Director and Producer

Project Overview:

The full-length work  Doll Play: Hudson, NY 1962. The full-length work is a 60-minute experiential, 8-screen, Dance/Pantomime film reimagining of Henrik Ibsen's “A Doll’s House” viewed through the eyes of a child playing with their dolls in the context of a Fine Art Gallery.

The work reimagines Ibsen's Living Room play expanded to the larger world of Nora’s doll's house. This enables the audience to view the action happening simultaneously through the 8  semi-static film views of Nora’s doll house in the Gallery space. At any given moment, the audience can peer into Nora's public and private spaces, much as a child might peer into their own dollhouse. The audience can witness the “Doll Play” of the cast of six performers on the screens as they move from room to room while Nora’s world unravels through surreal modern dance and pantomime.  The Cast of six characters will be fleshed out and character arcs will be refined to fit this new medium, creating all 6 character to function as main characters, much like Sleep No More. The myth of Eros and Psyche will serve as the secondary source material to flesh out the world, with Christine and Mr. Krogstad fulfilling Psyche and Eros, respectively.

One Day Workshop/ Proof on Concept

This Summer 20226 Comley House intends to produce a one-day proof of concept that will feature 3 cameras and one performer. Comley House is currently raising funds to pay the creative team to produce the work, rent a space, and secure the necessary equipment to create a proof of concept.

Gallery Concept

Doll House: Hudson, NY, 1962; intended home is a mixed-use gallery/museum setting. The experience will include two main spaces, a black box gallery where you can see the 8 screens, and a white box exhibit that features props, concept designs, and process materials around the making of the work. Since the original Doll's House is about an act of forgery through letters, this space is where the audience is able to discover the story in more detail.
